OPeNDAP allows one to give a application a url and have it directly download data. To read this data into matlab use 
loaddap('http://181.199.253.14/SOURCES/.Features/.Hydrological/.Guyana/.Water_Sheds/basin_name/gid+exch/2+index/.label/dods')
