OPeNDAP allows one to give a application a url and have it directly download data. To read this data into matlab use 
loaddap('http://181.199.253.14/SOURCES/.Features/.Hydrological/.Guyana/.hydro_basin/label/1+index/.shape_leng/shape_leng/dods')
