OPeNDAP allows one to give a application a url and have it directly download data. To read this data into matlab use 
loaddap('http://181.199.253.14/SOURCES/.Features/.Hydrological/.Lakes/.MajorLakes/.depth/%5Bgid%5Ddifferences/dods')
