OPeNDAP allows one to give a application a url and have it directly download data. To read this data into matlab use 
loaddap('http://181.199.253.14/SOURCES/.Features/.Hydrological/.Lakes/.MajorLakes/depth/1+index/.sqkm/2+index/.sqmi/dods')
