OPeNDAP allows one to give a application a url and have it directly download data. To read this data into matlab use 
loaddap('http://181.199.253.14/SOURCES/.WORLDBATH/bath/%5BX+%5Ddetrend-bfl/Y+partial/1+index/.bath/dods')
